Do you have a favorite artist? An artist who - no matter what he/she creates - creates the *perfect* artwork every time? For me, that artist is Julie from Jane's Apron. Every time I read her blog or visit her etsy shop, I fall in love all over again. (That's right, I have a girl crush on Julie. And I'm not ashamed to admit it.)
I would like to preface this spotlight on Jane's Apron with one final declaration of my love to the woman who fuels my passions and inspires my creativity: JULIE, I LOVE YOU!
Now then, moving on from my obsession with admiration for Julie:
Who are you?
My creative business is called Jane’s Apron and my name is Julie Thompson. I’ve always been crafty and have distinct memories of making stuff (like a purse from my cereal box) before I was old enough to be in school. The desire to create something never really left me but, when I walked away from my job as an engineer, my creative side was awakened again. I started by making and selling handmade cards and my paper crafting has jumped to all kinds of ideas from there. (I, for one, am happy you walked away.)
Why do you create?
I guess I create because it is just part of my nature. Making anything…a card, a collage, a cake…it just keeps me busy and happy everyday. (I could use a cake. Anytime.)
What inspires you?
I’m most inspired by color and pattern. I love to mix different colors and patterns in a way that catches my eye. I pull my ideas from just about anywhere…magazines, movie credits, dish patterns, TV (have you seen “Mad Men”? …tons of inspiration from that show). (Oooh, I'm a sucker for vintage dishes.)
What has inspired you so far today?
Well, it’s a little early as I write this but my coffee always gets the creative process started. I also have a pile of linens and aprons that I thrifted yesterday and know that their color and texture will show up somewhere in one of my projects. (In fact, Julie is hosting an apron giveaway right here.)
What is your favorite medium?
My favorite medium is paper…vintage paper images mixed with pretty papers. I love simple embellishments like silver eyelets, tiny bits of glitter, and pretty ribbon. (Well, you have obviously become a Mistress of Paper. Add that to your CV.)

I'm certainly guessing that many of you have also fallen in love with Julie. Please remember that I am her number one fan and possess first dibs on stalking rights. OK? Thank you.
